Cheer

Competitive cheer routines are comprised of stunts, dance and cheers therefore combining all divisions of cheerleading. Our competitive squad is comprised of approximately 25 members and the general cheer squad has over 50 members! In the past two years, RH Tom Cats Cheer Squad has gone from strength to strength. Jess Quiligotti is Captain of the RH Tom Cats and is responsible for choreographing routines and coaching the squad. The squad competes in the cheer division at regional, national and international competitions hosted by BCA and Future Cheer. Cheer routines have it all and are fun to watch. RH Tom Cats have won two 1st Place trophies this year alone in the cheer division, proving their ability to perform to a high standard.

Stunt

A stunt team is composed of 5 cheerleaders who perform a 1 minute 30 second routine composed of just stunts including baskets, inversions and transitions. RH Tom Cats co-ed stunt team acheived the squads first 1st Place trophy this year at Level 5 and the cheer and dance teams went on to claim first place in their divisions too! The stunt team also won the senior highest basket toss competition at BCA Midland Classic 2009. Being on a stunt team requires a high level of stamina and discipline but the outcome is a truly crowd pleasing routine. RH Tom Cats stunt team performs with confidence and will leave you wondering..how did they do that?!

Dance

RH Tom Cats dance squad has approximately 10 members who compete at BCA and Future Cheer competitions. Their preferred style of dance is Hip Hop but the talented dancers are able to perform a number of different styles. Cheer dance requires a high level of precision and creativity which RH Tom Cats have demonstrated successfully in recent competitions gaining 1st and 2nd place trophies this year. The dance squad is able to perform outstanding routines which show their talent in all aspects of dance. RH Tom Cats themed routines not only stand out at competition but also provide great entertainment at events.

Training

As with any other Sports Club at Royal Holloway, the cheerleading squad trains at least twice a week outside of competition time. In preparation for competition, training is increased accordingly. The stunt team trains at least once a week. The dance squad trains twice a week, sometimes at external facilities.

The entire squad are expected to maintain their general fitness and therefore many members go to the university gym regularly or exercise in their own time.

RH Tom Cats welcome new members at any time during the academic year. Experience isn't necessary as most members have never tried the sport before coming to university. If you are a gymnast, trampolinist, dancer or otherwise and fancy getting involved in an exciting new sport then why not give it a try? If you've never participated in sport before but want to get more out of your time at university then cheerleading is also for you! Cheerleading is becoming more recognised in the world of sport, nows your chance to get involved in the next big thing to hit the UK! Males and Females can join the squad.
